Connecticut Adopts the SEAL OF BILITERACY

Date: 6/10/2017

Congratulations!  We did it!

On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Governor Daniel P. Malloy signed HB 7159/ PA 17-29, An Act Concerning Connecticut's Seal of Biliteracy, officially making Connecticut the 27th state in the country with a Seal of Biliteracy.

On behalf of all of us at CT COLT, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who wrote testimony, or presented testimony to the legislature over the past two years.  This process has been a great one, and we have a great deal of support across the state for the Seal.

More information about the implementation of this legislation will be forthcoming.  We are working with members of the State Department of Education and representatives from the English Learner department of the SDE to submit our recommendations for guidelines for review by the State Board of Education, for their formal adoption.

CT COLT is committed to providing resources for teachers and administrators, who will look to award the Seal of Biliteracy in 2017-2018.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns.

We are looking forward working with all of you as we begin to award the seal in 2017-2018!

Best regards,

Jimmy Wildman
President, CT COLT
