WHAT IS THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE?

The Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages www.nectfl.org serves educators:

·        in all languages (including classical, less commonly taught, and ESL),

·        at all levels from kindergarten through university,

·        in both public and private settings.

In existence since the late 1940s, NECTFL is the largest of five regional associations of its kind in the United States, representing the area from Maine to Virginia but exercising leadership nation-wide.

WHAT DOES NECTFL DO FOR ME?

At no charge, NECTFL serves you by:

·        publishing a semi-annual magazine with articles plus reviews of products and services (latest issue is at http://www.nectfl.org/review67.pdf),

·        sharing information and facilitating partnerships, and

·        working to nurture leaders who can advocate effectively on your behalf.

Our current areas of interest include:

·        cultural proficiency,

·        language learning in preK-16+ urban educational settings, and

·        support for programs at risk due to the economic downturn.

The organization is widely recognized for cutting-edge and visionary work translated into practical classroom application.

HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE NECTFL’S BENEFITS TO ME?

NECTFL holds an annual conference each spring for all concerned with foreign language education, providing:

·        outstanding professional development,

·        the chance to interact with colleagues,

·        a packed exhibit hall (over 150 companies),

·        a diverse schedule (over 200 sessions and workshops).

Attending the Northeast Conference offers teachers with what they want and what they need:

·        inspiration,

·        CEUs,

·        contacts,

·        ideas,

·        materials,

·        a break from the routine,

·        a sense that they are respected and valued, and

·        a new perspective on their work.

The presenters and exhibitors who come to NECTFL are the most outstanding in the field.  Our Board works tirelessly to create a responsive, interesting, and exciting event with something for all of you!

·      The conference will be held April 1-4 at the magnificent Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel (http://www.nectfl.org/Conference/Conference2011.html)!

·      The two main conference days are Saturday and Sunday, so you don’t have to miss class to attend.

·        In response to attendee requests, you have the option of paying for a workshop only on Friday afternoon or on Monday (http://www.nectfl.org/Conference/Workshop2011.htm).

·      There is an excellent independent movie theater right behind the hotel, and we expect reduced evening rates on foreign films for NECTFL attendees.

·      Sessions are organized in strands by language, level and/or topic, so you can enjoy in-depth professional development.

·        A “teachers’ lounge” is available for taking a break, continuing a discussion, interviewing a candidate, meeting up with colleagues, etc.

·        Friendly experts will hold free webinars on aspects of the conference theme during the month of March – and post-conference follow-up activities will keep your new knowledge and skills fresh after you return to school.
