Welcome to CT COLT - Serving Connecticut Teachers Since 1968

Mission Statement

The Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (CT COLT) promotes, advocates for and fosters the teaching and learning of World Languages and Cultures.  We support, guide and connect educators, students, policy makers and the public through professional development, scholarship and collaborative initiatives.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ALL CT COLT EVENTS
(Fall Conference, Poetry Contest, Poster Contest, Essay Contest, Rhyme Celebration,
The Tech Academy, Student Awards/Excellence, Scholarships, Awards)

Participation in all CT COLT events now requires membership to CT COLT. Membership is based on a calendar year.     Please join us and take advantage of our new initiatives, as well as our well established ones.  We look forward to working with you and hope you will become involved in our many activities.

Important Poetry Recitation Contest Changes

  • All teachers who have students participating in the Poetry Recitation Contest MUST be current members of CT COLT.

  • Students in the following languages MUST SELECT a poem from the CT COLT approved slate of poems for the language and level in which the student is participating:  Ancient Greek, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish.

  • Students in the following languages will not select poems from an approved slate of poems, but the poems that the students choose should be level appropriate (not too difficult, not too easy):  Arabic, ASL, ESL/ELL, Hebrew, Modern Greek, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.

Click here to view the slates of poems in Ancient Greek, Chinese, French,
German, Italian, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish.
